Court 04 / The practice court

Drill Bag

Eight original drills. Each one takes a Bitcoin idea (a fixed supply, a ten-minute block, a halving) and turns it into reps you can run on an ordinary court with a partner, a wall or a basket of balls. Filter the bag, add drills to a session, adjust the minutes, then print it and go hit.

Warm up before any drill, drink water and stop if something hurts. Minutes shown are suggestions only. You set the real numbers in your session.

Serve from the right baseline into the left service box

The 21 Ball Cap

  • Serve
  • 12 min suggested

Gear

21 balls, two towels or cones, a pen.

Set up

Count out exactly 21 balls. That is your whole supply: no refills, no borrowing.

Run it

  1. Place a towel in the far corner of the deuce service box as a target.
  2. Serve all 21. Tally every ball that lands in the box, not just on the towel.
  3. Collect them, move to the ad side and run a second round.
  4. Add both rounds together.

Score it

Out of 42. Beat your own best, never someone else's. Aim for a few more in each time you repeat the drill.

Bitcoin link. Bitcoin's rules cap the supply at 21 million coins. Your basket is capped at 21 balls. When the supply is fixed, every single serve matters.

Two players rallying crosscourt

Ten-Minute Block

  • Groundstrokes
  • 10 min suggested

Gear

A partner, a timer, one ball.

Set up

Set a timer for ten minutes. Rally crosscourt with a partner: forehand to forehand, then backhand to backhand.

Run it

  1. Count your shots out loud, together.
  2. Each time a rally survives ten shots in a row, call out "block found" and keep going.
  3. If the rally dies, restart at once. The clock never stops.
  4. When the timer ends, write down how many blocks you found.

Score it

Number of blocks found in ten minutes. Some will arrive fast and some slowly, which is exactly the point.

Bitcoin link. The network aims for a new block about every ten minutes. That is a target, not a stopwatch, and your blocks will wobble around it too.

Four target boxes shrinking toward the far baseline

Halving Hands

  • Mind
  • 12 min suggested

Gear

A partner or a wall, pen and paper.

Set up

Four rounds. In each round the job is identical: hit eight clean shots in a row inside the singles lines.

Run it

  1. Round one pays 8 points for completing the eight.
  2. Round two pays 4 points for the very same task.
  3. Round three pays 2, round four pays 1.
  4. Stay locked in even as the reward shrinks. Quit early and you bank nothing for the round.

Score it

Maximum 15 points. The real score is whether your focus on round four matched round one.

Bitcoin link. Every 210,000 blocks, the reward for adding a block to the chain is cut in half. The work stays the same. Can you keep showing up?

Ball hit repeatedly against a wall at the far end

Proof of Work Wall

  • Groundstrokes
  • 10 min suggested

Gear

A practice wall, one ball, a tally pad.

Set up

Stand about a racket and a half behind a line marked on the ground, facing the wall.

Run it

  1. Hit fifty groundstrokes against the wall without catching the ball. Make a tally mark for every shot.
  2. Restart the count if you let the ball bounce twice.
  3. Ask a friend to watch only the last ten shots. They can confirm your streak in seconds.

Score it

Finish fifty. Then try a hundred. Work is hard to do but easy to check.

Bitcoin link. Proof of work uses SHA-256 hashing: costly to produce, quick for anyone to verify. Your tally sheet works the same way.

Player at the net volleying balls fed from the other side

Whole-Ball Volleys

  • Net play
  • 10 min suggested

Gear

A basket of 10 balls, a feeder.

Set up

Stand just inside the service line. The feeder tosses ten balls at a comfortable pace.

Run it

  1. Play every ball with a firm, whole volley: no half swings, no letting it bounce.
  2. A ball that is not played cleanly is "change": the feeder adds a replacement to the end of the line.
  3. Keep going until you have ten clean volleys.

Score it

Total feeds needed to reach ten clean volleys. Ten means perfect.

Bitcoin link. Bitcoin tracks unspent transaction outputs, and you spend a whole output at a time, receiving change back. You cannot spend half a ball.

Chain of serves to the T, then the body, then wide

Genesis Serve Chain

  • Serve
  • 12 min suggested

Gear

A basket of balls, three targets.

Set up

Set three targets in the service box: one by the centre line (the T), one at the body, one wide.

Run it

  1. Serve one to the T. That is the genesis of your chain.
  2. Next serve must hit the body target, then the wide target, then start over at the T.
  3. Every successful serve adds a link. A fault breaks the chain and you go back to the T.
  4. Record your longest chain.

Score it

Longest chain in twelve minutes.

Bitcoin link. The genesis block was mined in January 2009, and every block since links back to it. Break one link and the chain no longer holds.

Ladder of small steps along the baseline

Hundred-Million Steps

  • Footwork
  • 8 min suggested

Gear

Chalk or tape, a mat, a timer.

Set up

Mark eight lines on the ground, each about a short stride apart.

Run it

  1. Move through the lines with tiny, quick steps: both feet in every gap.
  2. Turn the same ladder into a side shuffle, then a backpedal.
  3. Finish each pass with a split step, as if the opponent just made contact.
  4. Rest, then run four passes of each pattern.

Score it

Count clean passes where you never touched a line.

Bitcoin link. One satoshi is a hundred-millionth of a bitcoin. Tiny units, added up, move mountains. So do tiny steps.

Notebook lines on the court

The Open Ledger

  • Mind
  • 15 min suggested

Gear

A notebook, a pen, a practice set.

Set up

Play a practice set with a partner. Keep a notebook on the bench.

Run it

  1. After every game, write one line: what happened and what you will try next.
  2. No erasing. If you change your mind, add a new line below.
  3. After the set, read the whole ledger out loud.
  4. Pick one pattern and make it next week's focus.

Score it

No numbers. If you wrote every game honestly, you won the drill.

Bitcoin link. Bitcoin's ledger is a shared record that anyone can check. Your notebook is a record that only you can lie to. Keep it honest.

Building a session

A few pointers from the bench.

  • Start with footwork or a serve drill when you are fresh, and finish with the mind drills when you are tired.
  • Two or three drills beat eight. Depth beats a checklist.
  • Use the minute boxes for your real timings. Values are limited to 1 to 120 minutes per drill.
  • Your session is remembered in this browser when storage is available. Nothing is uploaded.

About these drills

These drills are general practice ideas written for this site, not a coaching programme, and they are no substitute for advice from a qualified coach. Adjust the intensity to your fitness and the court to your space. No real players or tournaments are named anywhere in Sat Rally, and the Bitcoin notes stick to long-settled facts: the 21 million cap, the ten-minute block target, the 210,000-block halving cycle, SHA-256 proof of work, the 2008 whitepaper, the January 2009 genesis block and the UTXO model.
